A Scholar's Journey: The Divine Tempest Book Tour

A Scholar's Journey The Divine TempestA Scholar's Journey: The Divine Tempest

A Scholar’s Journey: The Divine Tempest is a no-holds-barred fantasy brawl. It begins when the God of Justice and Retribution opens The Abyss and unleashes a vengeful demon upon the mortal realm of Therra. Now it is up to scholar Penndarius Greyson and his tormented protector, martial artist Soren Luna Mortalitas, to stop a crisis that would send shockwaves through the very fabric of creation. In addition, Penndarius is waging an internal battle with a disembodied presence attempting to possess his mind. The two heroes must avoid death or capture, but there is a catch: They have only one day to solve a riddle older than history before a dark host of unstoppable demons is released into the world. The Divine Tempest includes warring factions, betrayal and redemption, and of course, Herrick Erickson-Brigl's trademark: epic fight scenes. This is the lean, hard-hitting first installment in a series that follows Penndarius’s growth as the avatar of the God of Creation and Soren’s reclamation of his lethal family’s humanity.

Carmex Healing Cream and Lotion Giveaway Ends 4/6

Don't laugh but I love Carmex.  The only problem is that Hubby loves Carmex products also.  So when the Carmex Blogger Squad sent me a box containing Carmex Healing Cream and Carmex Healing Lotion I had to share. *insert whine here*  Then on top of that when I whipped out my Carmex Healing Cream last weekend at Girl's Night Out, I had to share with the girls also.  *insert whine here also*  So heads up if you win this giveaway, you'll probably have to share with others.  Yes, I know sharing is caring but Carmex Healing Cream and Lotion leave your skin feeling so silky smooth you want it all to yourself.

If you're wondering why I love Carmex products so much, well here a just a few reasons:
  • Trusted.  Carmex has been around for 75 years
  • Carmex products are NOT tested on animals
  • Noticeably softens skin immediately
  • Money back guarantee
Recently, a pair of ill-fitted tennis shoes I'd purchased began rubbing across the top of my foot.  My skin was very irritable and there was a small patch that just itched all the time.  There was nothing more soothing than applying Carmex Healing Cream to the affected area as it healed.  If you're a fan of Carmex lip products, be sure to try Carmex Healing lotions and creams.

One lucky Three Boys and an Old Lady blog reader will win a prize pack containing Carmex Healing Cream and Carmex Healing Lotion!

Flip Flop Wines Review

Nothing like a glass of wine to wind down after an exhausting day.  Back in the day a nice bottle of wine was so expensive we only popped the vino on special occasions.  So it's nice to see an bottle of wine that tastes so good and affordable you can serve it at the everyday backyard barbecue, as well as, the fancy schmancy shindig leaving everyone to gasp when you tell it's under 10 bucks!  Yes, flipflop wines is that kinda' wine.

Let me preface this review by saying before the kids were born I belonged to a wine club and each month I received 3 bottles of wine.  I used it mainly for cooking and entertaining and developed a love of good wine.  So, I was skeptical when I heard of flipflop wines.  I mean, come on, it was like $7.  I so thought it would be bland, cheap, tasteless wine but I was wrong.  The flipflop Wines I sampled were fragrant, refreshing, full of aromas that stimulate your tastebuds, flipflop Wines did not disappoint.

I absolutely loved the flipflop Riesling.  Fruity aromas coupled with a subtle sweetness.  Riesling is perfect for taking the twinge out of spicy foods.  I imagine with it's peach undertones, flipflop Riesling would make a delicious sauce with some fresh peaches and berries served atop fresh baked shortcake.  Confession:  I love fresh fruits in wine reductions.  It's delicious and a great way to get rid of that not quite a glass left of wine.

If the lure of an aromatic wine isn't enough to tempt you, then the fact that a portion of every sale benefits one of my favorite charities, Soles4Souls.  So one good thing begets another.  How awesome is that!

flipflop Wines can be found at most stores where alcoholic beverages are sold.  You may also visit the flipflop Wines Store Locator at http://udws.com/store-locator

What's Your Hamptonality Moment?

Hampton Hotels are one of my faves when it comes to travel.  Whether it's business or personal, I know I will always find nice accommodations, comfy bed, professional staff and great breakfast.  In fact, the reason the Three Boys and an Old Lady family just had to have a rotating waffle iron stems from a stay in a Dallas Hampton Inn.  Oh, there's an added perk --> I can earn and use my Hilton HHonors rewards when I stay at a Hampton Hotel.  Boo-yah!!!

Hampton Hotels has launched a new campaign complete with a video that shares their latest Hamptonality Moment. Hampton Hotels' video series, Hamptonality Moments, tells the stories of real-life guests and moments that made their stay especially memorable.

Check out the first video in the series.  Sara and Justin have a long distance relationship due to promotions at different jobs. In the video, "Meet Me Halfway", we see the couple meeting at a halfway location and staying at a Hampton Hotel in Scranton, PA. The staff rolled out the red carpet for them, and they enjoyed a few amazing surprises together.

Ronco Hidden Veggie Pasta Review

I should probably preface this post by the Three Boys and an Old Lady family is known for eating a lotta pasta.  Seriously, we have pasta at least twice a week, sometimes three.  My eldest nephew often teases me because it never fails that whenever he drops by our home, we just so happen to have pasta for dinner.  What can I say, I love pasta.  Pasta is versatile, can be served hot or cold, filling, the entire family likes it and it's inexpensive.

Over the years I've tried some healthy pasta varieties.  Some we've liked.  Others, notsomuch.   We've tried wheat, whole wheat, whole grain, high fiber, buckwheat, spelt (yes, spelt pasta), and a few other varieties and there are noticeable taste differences in each.  I told you we eat a lotta pasta in the Three Boys and an Old Lady household.  I admit, I was a bit skeptical when I heard of Ronco Hidden Veggie Pasta but figured I'd give it a try and whipped up some chicken spinach penne alfredo.

At first glance Ronco Hidden Veggie Pasta looks just like your typical pasta but it's
"Hidden Veggie".   Yes, hidden veggie.  There's actually a full serving of veggies in every 4 oz. pasta portion.  Real veggies:  corn, carrots and squash.  Aha, finally a way to make my eldest eat his carrots!

Ronco Hidden Veggie Pasta is low in calories, has 0 cholesterol, low fat, no sodium, no sugar and here's the best part it tastes great.  The entire family, even the picky little one, loved it.  If you've ever tried some of the whole grain pasta varieties you will definitely notice that Ronco Hidden Veggie pasta is not as dense and doesn't take as long to cook.

We loved it and we'll definitely purchase more.  Healthy, nutritious and they like it, that's a win-win for this Keep It Simple Cooking mommy.

The Christian Mama's Guide to Having a Baby Booksneeze Book Review

The Christian Mama's Guide to Having a Baby
Everything You Need to Know to Survive (and Love) Your Pregnancy
By Erin MacPherson Published by Thomas Nelson

Book Description

Everything you need to know about pregnancy—from weight gain to stretch marks to figuring out how to rely on Christ through the ups and downs of the next nine months.
This comprehensive guide is packed with information that every newly pregnant Christian mama needs—including:
  • help for pregnancy insomnia, morning sickness, weight gain and more
  • advice on how to maintain a godly attitude and outlook during pregnancy—even when you're feeling anything but godly
  • what to expect from doctor check-ups, your encounters with the scale and labor and delivery
  • tips on how to survive food cravings, aversions, and even dreaded pregnancy exercise
  • healthy eating advice for pregnancy that doesn't outright ban ice cream sundaes
  • ideas on how to keep your marriage a priority when you're pregnant, including a guide for Christian dads-to-be and even pregnancy sex tips
This detailed guide takes you through each trimester with helpful tips, humorous accounts, and supportive spiritual advice--all with a girlfriend-to-girlfriend approach that will help moms feel comfortable as they navigate this life-changing time.

My Thoughts:

There is nothing more exciting and frightening than pregnancy and moms to be will find no shortage of advice.  The Christian Mama's Guide to Having a Baby is a rather unique approach to offering pregnancy advice.  The book presents advice that is sure to make any mom to be smile throughout her pregnancy.  I loved the first trimester wardrobe tricks in Chapter 1.  Leggings, yoga pants and so many secrets to looking great even when you're not feeling so hot.

The Time Out for Mom sections scattered throughout the book offered great scripture and a brief devotional and was one of my fave sections.
The Christian Mama's Guide to Having a Baby is witty, fun and just like talking with a big sister and the pregnancy resources found in Chapter 15 were hands down one of the most creative takes on pregnancy I've ever read.  The chapter included a few pages highlighting the Bible as a resource.  Funny when you think about it, but amazingly true once you read it.  I could share some of my other fave pregnancy resources but why when you can check out The Christian Mama's Guide to Having a Baby for yourself or for the mom to be in your life.

The Christian Mama's Guide to Having a Baby is refreshing and moms-to-be will smile as MacPherson presents a fresh take on pregnancy.  Although it may appear comical and light-hearted, The Christian Mama's Guide to Having a Baby offers some serious tips sure to help guide the mom-to-be understand the late night cravings, morning/afternoon/evening sickness, and all the other "joys" of pregnancy.

The Christian Mama's Guide to Having a Baby would make a great baby shower gift for a new mom or a mom-to-be.

Buy It:

The Christian Mama's Guide to Having a Baby is available at bookstore nationally and also on Amazon .  I am looking forward to checking out the other books in the Christian Mama's Guide series and hope to share my thoughts with you on them as well.

10 Things About Road Trips...with THE KIDS

I come from a long lineage of Road Warriors.  Seriously, my parents were masters of the family road trip.  I don't think we ever flew anywhere as a family when I was a kid.  We drove EVERYWHERE and we liked it.  Well, I think we did.  I'on really remember.

However, when it comes to planning a vacation, getaway, excursion, I am the Princess of Experience.  I learned from the best.   No have no doubt you will learn, enjoy and have the trip of a lifetime when you travel with moi.  Over the years, I've had some fab trips, some GREAT trips but this year, my Spring Break trip was among my worst ever.  I had to figure out just what went wrong.  I mean, I planned...I mapped...I did all those things I typically do but something went wrong...terribly wrong.   After reviewing my typical traveling tips, I figured it out.  My middle son had another place he wanted to be and it definitely wasn't on the road with his family so he made every attempt to not enjoy the annual family Spring break vacay.  Success.  You know how we're always saying "Don't make me turn this car around"?  Well, 16 hours into our Spring break, I did exactly that.  I turned the car around and headed right back home.  We made the best of what was left of our vacation by doing all those things we typically do on road trips but had a little more time to do them.

Here are my 10 tips for family road trips and hope these will help you and your family as you hit the highways and bi-ways on your next road trip.

10.  Brake for brown signs.  When you see a brown sign there's an adventure in the making.  STOP.

  9.  Support a local grower and stop at that little roadside market.

  8.  Take pictures and SHARE themDon't take a ton of fab photos only to keep them
on your memory card for eternity.  Note to self:  Print pics from hubby's Hawaiian
          vacation.

   7.  Visit the local grocery store.  There are some unique local favorites to be found at
          the grocery store.

  6.  Explore a cemetery.  Find out who's buried where and learn a little history along
the way.  Macabre?  Perhaps, but so much fun.

  5.  Buy STAMPS and postcards.  Send a postcard.  Keep a postcard.  We send
postcards to our home address and to loved ones and keep one for our family
photo album.  I plan to use the postcards in our family photo album for the day
when my kids tell me we never went anywhere fun.

  4.  Buy a newspaper.

  3.  Visit a museum.  Any museum.  There's ALWAYS something interesting and most
          museums are FREE.

  2.  Do something you've never done before.  I never thought I'd like ziplining.  I love
it.  I never thought I'd like crabbing.  I love it.  I never thought, well you get the
picture.  It's vacation.  Do something different.

  1.  It's ALWAYS great to return home and sleep in your own bed and dream of where
          you'll travel next time.

Check Out the BabyComfyNose Nasal Aspirator

If you’ve ever used a bulb or battery-type aspirator to clear the mucus out of your little one’s nose, you’ve probably said to yourself: “There has to be a better way!”  Well, we just found a better way and it’s called the BabyComfyNose Nasal Aspirator.

Here’s the amazing part (or gross part – depending on your perspective) it uses your own suction.  And that’s why it’s superior to standard aspirators.  Think about it: your own lungs are a really strong and natural vacuum cleaner – much more powerful than a tiny bulb or battery-powered motor. And the result is just a more effective method of clearing your baby’s sinuses.

But have no fear; you won’t suck boogies into your mouth because of the design of the receptacle and the tissue filter that you insert into the body of the aspirator.  This is why pediatricians are recommending BabyComfyNose to moms and dads.  Recently, Dr. Sears of The Doctors TV Show recommended the BabyComfyNose as the best way to clear babies’ noses.

Take a look at the video ‘How to Use the BabyComfyNose’ here www.babycomfynose.com to see how well it works.

The folks at BabyComfyNose are also offering a 20%-off coupon.  Details here http://www.babycomfynose.com/usfamilyguide

Let Your Tastebuds Be Your Passport With A Splash of Licor 43

Cuarenta y tres means 43 and is reference to the 43 ingredients of Licor 43 liquer.  I'm not sure of all 43 ingredients used to make Cuarenta y Tres, but with the subtle hint of vanilla, I'm sure it ranks among the 43.  Velvety smooth with aromatic citrus tones which can be served warm, chilled, frozen or incorporated into some of your favorite desserts like white chocolate mousse and madelines.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup Licor 43
2 cups sweet cream
250 grams white chocolate
340 grams berry
 Directions:
Stir.
Mix.
Cool.
Top with whipped cream.

There's even a recipe to amp up your Madelines recipe with a hint of Licor 43.  This ain't grandma's rum cake.  This is a very sultry, complex liquer sure to delight your guests.

I tried it on the rocks and detected so many aromas.  There's definitely vanilla, perhaps a little citrus and some spices, maybe cinnamon.  Licor 43 is so complex, each sip kept me guessing so needless to say, Licor 43 did not disappoint.   I also tried it with pineapple juice and there was definitely a little pina colada in the making.  I'll have to work on that recipe and share.
My pantry is filled with various syrups, extracts and liquers which I use to flavor baked goods and I will definitely have to experiment a little with Licor 43I have a few rum cake recipes and may try switching the rum for a little Licor 43.  I have a few weeks until the next #GNO (Girl's Night Out) is scheduled at my house, so I'll be sure to let you know what the girls say.
In the words of my fellow foodies, if you're only drinking your wine or liquers, you are missing out on a dining experience.  Let your tastebuds be your passport.
