Kroger Skillet Meals: This BzzAgent Reviews

As a BzzAgent I have the opportunity to try new things and I was glad to hear I was selected to review Kroger Skillet Meals.  This was a great BzzAgent campaign as I received coupons for Kroger Skillet Meals, Kroger garlic bread and a bag of Fresh Express salad.  A COMPLETE MEAL!

Choosing which Kroger garlic bread and Fresh Express salad proved to be easy tasks but with so many flavors of Kroger Skillet Meals to choose from, well, that proved to be quite the challenge.  My local grocer carried the Tuscan Style Penne, Shrimp Lo Mein, Chicken Fajitas and Sausage Rigatoni.  I settled on the Shrimp Lo Mein.

I'd love to say the Three Boys and an Old Lady family loved it, but *sigh* we didn't.  There were probably about 6 teeny, weeny shrimp and quite honestly the dish took a long time to prepare.  You have to thaw the sauce in one cup, heat the noodles up in another, do this, do that, blah, blah, blah-blah, blah-blah.  Then on top of all that, the noodles had an odd texture and the sauce was flavorless.

I'm a firm believer of the whole "Try It Once to say you tried it, try it again to say if you like it or not".  Thank goodness we tried it again.  Well, at least another variety of Kroger Skillet Meals at least.  My family loved the Tuscan Style Penne.  Definitely a huge time saver and pretty tasty. We will definitely purchase this variety again!

I also loved the Fresh Express Salad Kits.  There are tons of varieties and there's always just enough leftover for lunch the following day.  Coupled with the Kroger Garlic Bread, which was a winner in the Three Boys and an Old Lady household as well.  The kids really loved the garlic bread and we've had it couple of times since first trying it.  What a time saver!
I'd love to try the Kroger Skillet Meals Chicken Fajitas variety and have asked my local store manager to order.  So, if you're looking for a quick meal and there's a Kroger near you, but sure to give Kroger Skillet Meals a try and while you're there, why not make it a meal and pick up a bag of Fresh Express Salad and some Kroger Garlic Bread.

Bimbambu Book Review

Bimbambu is the moving story of a bird of many colors who shares his feathers with other animals in order for them to knit an article of clothing for themselves so that hey can be protected during the winter months. As time goes by, having barely any feathers left, Bimbambu begins to fear that he will freeze. Just as he finds himself thinking that things couldn't get worse, he encounters true friends and realizes the value of helping others.

This story is ideal for ages 3-8, but the lessons are valuable even for older children. The book is beautifully written and the art is both rich and original. The mixed media that combines photography, colorful and lively ceramic characters, and paper art as the background, along with other features, will captivate and lift the imagination of even the youngest readers. This timeless yet original tale is sure to become a literary gem and a favorite among your child's books.

Our Thoughts:  Besides being creatively illustrated, Bimbambu is a wonderful tale.  We loved reading and hearing the story of how one shared so much and just when he needed it most, all that he'd given away was returned to him.  The use of mixed media only brings to life this heartwarming story sure to be read again and again and again.

I was glad to share Bimbambu this during the children's story hour at our local library.  As soon as I finished reading, the children asked me to read it again and again I did.  What a wonderful story to share with others.

Buy It:  Visit http://www.bimbambu.com/buy-bimbambu/ or click here to visit Amazon to order your copy today.

Kindle Fire HD raffle for Charity

“I'm very polite by nature, even the voices in my head let each other finish their sentences.” – from Completely Flappable

Don’t you just hate it when you have a thousand little thoughts rattling around your brain, good for nothing but keeping you up at night? Ideas, worries, mental reminders for the next day? My voices can get pretty insistent, and mostly this is a nuisance, but sometimes it’s okay, when there’s a story idea or two among the ramblings. And rarely, very rarely, I get what I think is a really good idea, but one that I don't know what to do with.

For instance, a while ago it occurred to me that it’s probably not governments or big corporations that wield the world’s greatest financial power. I think it’s us. All the little people together. Then I started wondering what could happen if we all decided to set 1 month of our incomes aside towards fixing this place up a bit. How many of the world’s problems could we actually solve permanently? Half of them, maybe? All of them? That's a pretty cool picture.

But I’m a pretty dim light when it comes to implementing even small ideas, never mind the big ones. So I’m not sure how to get that ball rolling (heck, I'm not even sure where we keep the balls). But I can certainly start with myself. That’s easy enough (I’ve been in close contact with myself for years; I didn't have much trouble convincing myself.)

So, this December, all proceeds of all my novels will go to Child Helpline International. The CHI is pretty cool because they support toll-free child helplines worldwide and they help highlight gaps in child protection systems. They do all this on donations (click the image below for more information.)

But what does all this have to do with you? Well, I'm raffling off some prizes and giving out some freebees to boost the donation (expenses out of my own pocket, not the donation :P )

So what's in it for you, besides that warm, fuzzy feeling you'll get knowing the Xmas presents you’re buying include an automatic donation? Well, how about I give you the new edition to the award winning No Hope for Gomez saga completely free?
And how about a Kindle Fire HD raffle ticket with every purchase while we’re at it?
Simply forward your receipt emails to nohopeforgomez@gmail.com to participate.

And now, on to the pitch. This is the bit where I try to convince you, using only my words, that my novels don’t suck (or at least, not too much.) That they won’t only tickle your brain, but they’ll actually make your life better, if only marginally. That they are, in fact, worthy donation material. Here goes (fingers crossed)...

Paper: $6.08
Kindle:$2.99
(uk paper, kindle)

No Hope for Gomez!

Winner of the Forewords Book of the Year Awards, featured on Kirkus Best Indie List 2011, IBA and USA Book News Award nominee.
It's the age-old tale:

  Boy meets girl.
  Boy stalks girl.
  Girl already has a stalker.
  Boy becomes her stalker-stalker.

We've seen it all before, many times, but this time it's different. If only slightly.
"Extremely witty writing containing keen insights into human nature." --California Chronicle
"Challenges the way we think about, and interact with, the world around us." --Kirkus Discoveries
"The antics in this book will leave the reader laughing. Graham Parke is a genius."--Reader's Favorite

Unspent Time

Warning: reading this novel may make you more attractive and elevate your random luck by about 9.332%*
(*These statements have not been evaluated by anyone of consequence)
Permeating the cracks between the past and the present is the realm of Unspent Time. Time that was allotted but never spent. In this realm we find the stories that could have been true. Such as the story of the designer of the color scheme used inside your shoe, or the story of Goki Feng Ho: the Chinese art of decoding the secret meaning of car license plates.

“Captivating. Each story fired up my imagination.” – Alan H. Jordan, author.
"Delightfully mad. Graham's vibrant characters shine from the first page." --Tahlia Newland, author.

Completely Flappable

“He’s completely flappable!”
“Don’t you mean he’s unflappable?”
“Not really. He can very easily be flapped.”
Gomez has never been on a date. In his 27 years on the planet he’s never been able to quite close the deal. For some reason, circumstances always conspire to make his meet-ups with women less than official dates. But now a blond German girl with freckles has moved into his building and he decides it’s time to get his act together.

If you've read this far, you're already my hero ;)
I hope you like my idea enough to join me in this fun adventure. Let's see how much we can raise this Xmas ;)

Kind regards,

Graham Parke

HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE 2013: Jamaican Rum Punch with Diplomatico Anejo

If you've never had Jamaican Rum Punch, it's a really easy recipe sure to bring Island happiness to all of your guests.  Funny thing, Rum Punch day is celebrated in September but Rum Punch is served mostly during Christmastime.  One of my friends recently returned from a trip to the Caribbeans and she was raving about this rum punch she had so we tried to recreate the recipe.

A couple of months ago, I received a sample of Diplomatico Anejo Rum as part of a Rum Punch Day campaign.  The sample was about 6-8 oz. and just enough for about 4 glasses of rum punch.  Not enough for a punch bowl full of Jamaican Rum Punch but just enough for a couple of the divas to have a taste.  Road trip!!!  Well, it wasn't really a road trip, it was more of a 10-minute drive to the local wine and spirits store.  I asked the clerk his thoughts on Diplomatico Anejo and he complimented my taste and also shed a little light on Venezuelan rums.

After our visit, the divas and I headed back to my house to experiment with a few recipes we found online.

Diplomatico Anejo is a delicious flavor base  to Rum Punch or any other tropical beverages because it has sweetness of raisins, caramel and hints of cocoa, coffee and a hint of spice.  Ssssssmmmmmooooooooooottttttthhhhhh...

Check out my Rum Punch Recipe featuring Diplomatico Anejo

Ingredients:

  • 6-8 oz. Diplomatico Anejo
  • 1/2 cup coconut juice
  • 1 1/2 cups orange juice
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice
  • juice of 2 limes
  • juice of 2 lemons
Directions:

  1. Pour all ingredients into a punch bowl and stir.
  2. Refrigerate.  Best to refrigerate at least 2-3 hours before serving to allow flavors to blend
  3. Serve over ice.

Makes about 4 servings

Diplomatico Anejo is available at wine and spirit stores everywhere.

HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE 2013: Kentucky Woods Bourbon Barrel Cake

Last year while visiting family in Indianapolis, we visited a Sam's Club and I was introduced to Kentucky Woods Bourbon Barrel Cake courtesy of sampling event.  Rather than buy the cake then I decided to wait til I returned home to buy it from my local Sam's Club.  Imagine my horror when I found out my local Sam's Club didn't carry Kentucky Woods Bourbon Barrel Cake.  I went to the Kentucky Woods website and found it...for $40 + shipping.  It was near Christmas and I knew the cake would never arrive unless I paid for overnight shipping which was another $40 and well, $80 for a cake, ummm...nope.

I used the store finder on their website I phoned every store in my state to see if anyone had it in stock.  To my dismay, every single store responded with "No ma'am we're sold out."

So I didn't get my cake last year. *insert sad face here*

This year while planning our Thanksgiving dinner menu, my mind drifted to that dang cake.  I wanted it.  Sadly, it was like some sort of wicked foodie obsession and I was determined to have it.  So, again I went to their website and used the storefinder to find the cake.

The first call was a "No".
The second call was a "Yes.  How many do you want?"

HAPPY ME!!!

From Millan.Net

I loaded up the car, set my GPS and off I went on a 45-minute drive to pick up two Kentucky Woods Bourbon Barrel Cakes.  Yes, 45-minutes.  For a cake.

I knew I had to buy two because we have two weeks til Thanksgiving and trust me my sweet tooth probably wouldn't be able to hold out that long.

Was it worth it?  UMM YES!!! and better yet I didn't have to pay shipping costs

Each cake comes beautifully packaged in a wooden barrel box and double sealed to keep fresh. Weighing in at over 3 lbs. this cake is a whopper!!!!

Lift the lid and your eyes behold a bounty of walnuts, chocolate drizzle and caramel frosting draping over a brown sugar cake drenched with the essence of Kentucky bourbon.

Kentucky Woods Bourbon Barrel Cake would make a great addition to the desserts table at your holiday table or a wonderful hostess gift or better yet, dessert lovers like moi would definitely appreciate being gifted with this delicious beauty.

Kentucky Woods Bourbon Barrel Cake is definitely one of my favorites and knowing it's only available in my area during certain times of the year makes it even more special.

For more info:
-Click here to visit Kentucky Woods website
    -Like Kentucky Woods on Facebook

I'll be sure to save a slice for you next time you visit.  Just not THIS one.

Disclosure:  I didn't receive anything in exchange for this post.  This just happens to be one of my favorite things.

HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE 2013: O'Keeffe's Skin Creams for Working Hands and Healthy Feet

I'm sure you're probably wondering why I chose to include O'Keeffe's Healthy Feet and Working Hand products in my 2013 Holiday Gift Guide, well keep reading for the answer.

I love to snuggle up to hubby and rub my cold feet against his warm feet but sometimes he gets occasional dry, rough, callous heels and ouch.  I was so excited to try O'Keeffe's and promised hubby a foot rub if he'd help me sample O'Keeffe's Healthy Feet.  He NEVER turns down a foot rub especially after a long day's work.

I'm not much of foot rub person but after a few days of using O'Keeffe's I noticed my feet were softer so I thought I'd try them on hubby's tired feet.  Guess what?  O'Keeffe's really worked magic on his feet.

I'll be the first to confess to dry, callous heels, especially in the Summer when I'm wearing sandals and flip flops all the time.  O'Keeffe's Healthy Feet didn't leave my feet feeling slippery and oily and that was a relief.  Other foot creams and balms often leave my feet feeling like I dunked them in a basin of oil.  YUK!  Anyone who follows Three Boys and an Old Lady blog knows I don't like a lot of scents and O'Keeffe's Healthy Feet had a really light scent.  It wasn't odorless but there was no real scent.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words so check out my pics

O'Keeffe's isn't limited to feet, they also make O'Keeffe's Working Hands and this is perfect for those who suffer from severely, dry and cracked hands.

I tried it but I don't really suffer from dry, cracked hands but my cousin does.  He works in an automotive garage and he's always under the hood of his car tooling away.  Working on cars leaves his hands rough to the touch.  Many of the hand cleaners he uses to wash away the goo and gunk of working on cars don't help much either.  Those hand cleaners contain pumice which seems to rub away the smooth skin exposing his palms to dry air leaving his skin dry and cracked and even more susceptible to callouses.  I shared the O'Keeffe's Working Hands with him thinking it'd be perfect for him and I was right.

He said he's definitely buy O'Keeffe's Working Hands because his hands were noticeably softer.

Me?  I liked the density of the cream and it definitely left my hands feeling soft.  I keep it in my purse so I always have it on hand (no pun intended) and it never fails whenever I take it out of my purse someone asks, "What's that?"  I love to share and once they try O'Keeffe's Working Hands I get the same question, "Where'd you get that from?"  When I tell them that O'Keeffe's Working Hands and Healthy Feet creams may be found at Walgreens, Target, Walmart, Drugstore.com and so many other stores, they're surprised.

Now to answer why I chose to include O'Keeffe's creams in my 2013 Holiday Gift Guide, my mother-in-law and I were at dinner a few weekends ago.  After a visit to the ladies' room to wash my hands after dinner, the soap left my hands very dry so I reached in my purse and grabbed my O'Keeffe's Working Hands.  I offered some to my mother-in-law and she rubbed her fingers in the tub and applied to her hands.  I hadn't thought anymore about it until last week when we stopped by to visit my in-laws and my mother-in-law asked where I bought it.  I told her it was available at stores everywhere and she said O'Keeffe's Working Hands Hand Cream would make a great stocking stuffer.  Who knew?

I never thought about it but she's right.  Winter weather wreaks havoc on our skin, especially our hands because they're often exposed so that's why  chose to include O'Keeffe's creams in my 2013 Holiday Gift Guide.

Chicken Soup for the Soul 4-Pack Soup Giveaway

Last month I shared a Chicken Soup for the Soul deal introducing the new line of Chicken Soup for the Soul comfort food products.  (Click here to check out that post).

Now I have the chance to share a review and a giveaway of a 4-pack of Chicken Soup for the Soul Soups.  Chicken Soup for the Soul books are a fave here on Three Boys and an Old Lady and after tasting the Chicken Noodle Soup we're looking forward to trying all of the other varieties.

Keep reading to check out my review and enter the giveaway

Chicken Soup for the Soul offers 8 varieties of soups, as well as, broths, gravies, pasta sauces, meal builders, and soup toppers and promises more comfort foods on the way.  Each product is made from fresh ingredients and no artificial ingredients or colors and no HFCs.
Looking for gluten free products?  Low cholesterol foods?  Dairy free foods?  Be sure to check out Chicken Soup for the Soul foods.

Each item comes ready to heat and serve. Fresh ingredients and homemade taste from a company that's got year's of experience of warming hearts and souls.

Check out the 8 varieties of soup:
  • Chicken Noodle
  • Spicy Thai Chicken Noodle
  • Chicken Tortilla
  • Hearty Minestrone
  • Beef Barley
  • Lentil and Beef
  • Tomato Basil
  • Southwestern Style Black Bean
Our Thoughts:  We had the chance to sample the Chicken Noodle Soup variety.  The first cold rain of fall fell and the eldest Los Tres Amigos came home from school tired, wet and cold.  His brothers made a sandwich but he didn't want one.  I heated up the Chicken Soup for the Soul Chicken Noodle Soup and made a bowl for he and I.  As he sipped the warm broth, he began to share his day with me and a smile came across his face. Soup has a way of warming the body and warming the soul.
