Everything in its Place: Smead Products Help You Get More Organized

Looking to become more organized in the upcoming new year?  If so, a trip to Shoplet.com is in order.  Whether you're looking to organize family financial files or creating files for your home office, Smead products are sure to be ideal in helping you get more organized.

We have a five-drawer file cabinet and I use it to keep the Three Boys and an Old Lady household organized.  Hubby and I use one drawer to store all our receipts so we can keep them organized and sorted for our accountant during tax season.  I have a drawer for each of the kids in which I keep up with stuff for school.  The folders can get a bit weighted with all the paper we collect over the year so it's important to have a heavy duty hanging file folder that won't cripple from the all the "important" stuff we save.  Smead folders fit the bill.

Smead is a name I trust.  Smead folders are the same folders used in my dad's office when I was a kid and they're the same folders used in my office.  Quality.  Dependable.  Trusted brand.

I received Smead FasTab hanging file foldersSuperTab Heavyweight Folders and Easy Grip Expanding Pocket folders for review. I know you're probably thinking hanging folders are just hanging folders right?  WRONG!  Smead has put a new spin on their products and incorporated some fab features.

Take the FasTab Hanging Folders have built-in tabs.  Somewhere there's a person reading this post right who really appreciates no longer having to slide the teeny weeny slips of perforated paper into those little plastic sleeves using the paper clip.  *SMILE*

FasTab hanging folders have sturdy tabs that you can either write on or use the enclosed label sheet to print labels using your printer.  Smead FasTab hanging folders come with a larger label print area so your labels will be easier to read.  No more squinting!

I love the SuperTab Heavyweight Folders.  The writing space is nearly 90% larger than other folders and these folders aren't flimsy like some other "heavyweight" folders.  Smead SuperTab Heavyweight folders really are sturdy.

However, the fave product in our home are the Smead Easy Grip Pocket Folders.  These are perfect for securing papers and making sure they stay in place and the ribbed grip area allows for a more secure grip.  You have to see the Smead Easy Grip Pocket Folder and another expandable folder side by side to really appreciate how neat this unique feature is.  When you retrieve other expandable folders you may find the folder slipping between your fingers but that's not the case with the Smead Easy Grip Pocket folder.  You have some texture to grip on to and therefore lessen the chance of dropping your folder.  Oh, and the kids love them because the folders are perfect for carrying homework, toys and stuff...lots of stuff.

Be sure to check out Shoplet.com for some fab deals on Smead and other office supplies to help you get organized.

Disclosure: “I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Sturm Foods, Inc. I received a promotional item and product samples as a thank you for participating”

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is upon us.  Whether it's shopping for gifts, making an appearance at every single Christmas party or trying to schedule activities to keep the kids busy during Winter Break, I am super busy this time of year.  I'm often asked how I ever find time for myself amidst my crazy schedule.  Well, the secret to my sanity is simple.  I ALWAYS spend a little time alone.  Yep, just me.

One of my fave ways to wind down on a cold, wintry day like today is with a cup of coffee.  Thanks to my Keurig brewer I don't have to brew a whole pot of coffee. I can enjoy a fresh, hot cup of coffee anytime.  A cup of coffee my way.  Keurig is perfect for the increased traffic in my home during the holidays as everyone can have their fave beverage their way.  Whether it's a seasonal Pumpkin Spice Grove Square Cappuccino or a warm Spiced Apple Grove Square Cider or just a cup of coffee roasted to their preferred strength, Caza Trail and Grove Square K-cups are perfect for everyone.

I received a box of Caza Trail Donut Lover's Blend Medium Roast K-Cups for review.  Caza Trail and Grove Square offers such a wide variety of coffees, teas and specialty beverages.  Funny thing, Caza Trail Donut Lover's Blend K-cups are actually one of my faves.  The medium roast was flavorful and there's nothing like the aroma of a fresh cup of coffee.  I typically like to enjoy a cup or two while curled up with a good book and my favorite fuzzy socks or early in the morning before the kids wake up.  It's funny how something so simple can be so relaxing, yet recharging at the same time.

There's nothing like a cup of coffee to provide that extra jolt you need to get you revved for the challenges of the day ahead.  I love waking up just a few minutes before everyone to enjoy a cup to myself and then Hubby wakes up a few minutes later and he brews his fave K-cup.  He likes his coffee a tad stronger than I do.  Caza Trail and Grove Square feature coffees to our liking and the convenience of our Keurig means every single cup is brewed to perfection.  Seriously it's like having a coffee shop at home.

I've had my Keurig for a few years and each year I'm amazed by the number of new beverages added to the lineup.  When I first got my Keurig, we were limited to a few coffees and teas, but oh, how things have changed.  Now there are hundreds of K-cup varieties including the tasty Caza Trail K-cups.
Next time you need a little getaway, why not sit down and sip a cup of your fave Caza Trail K-cup.

Buy It:  Caza Trail and Grove Square K-cups may be found at stores nationwide and online at Amazon

HOLIDAY GUIDE GUIDE 2013: PÜR Gum Tradition Upgraded

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
Full of PÜR Gum because this mommy cares...

Gum?  Yes, gum.  I had to include gum in my 2013 Holiday Gift Guide.  Let me explain.

When I was a kid, each Christmas my mom would fill our stocking with fresh fruit and nuts, one of those candy Lifesaver books, old fashioned ribbon candy and gum.  Yes, gum. This was one of the few times, My sister, brother and I would sit down on the living room floor playing with our new toys and just chomping on sugary snacks to our heart's content.  This was the last SugarFest of the year.
Hard to believe neither of us has ever gotten a single cavity amid all the sugary candy and gum we ate between Halloween and Christmas alone, but I'm glad to say nary a cavity...not a one.  Now that I'm a mommy I worry about my kids' dental health.  We visit our dentist regularly and change our toothbrushes every few months and we choose healthy snacks.  I know gum doesn't exactly come to mind as a healthy snack but it can be.  In fact, my orthodontist recommends chewing gum and so does my children's dentist.  Yep, chewing gum.
Chewing gum stimulates saliva production and helps get those digestive juices flowing.  I always chew gum after I've had my braces tightened (adjusted).  Chewing gum really helps alleviate some of the pain.  Sugar free gum is always my first choice and if the gum had a tasty flavor, I was good.  However, it wasn't until I received samples of PÜR Gum that I became aware of a few things.

Did you know?

  • Most gums contain Aspartame, a synthetic sweetener linked to nausea, headaches, dizziness and changes in heart rate?
  • PÜR Gum is Gluten Free, Nut Free and Dairy Free
  • PÜR Gum is chemical free and has no Aspartame
  • PÜR Gum contains Xylitol which helps prevent tooth decay
  • Gum chewing burns calories.  11 calories per hour
PÜR Gum is available in four flavors:
     Wintergreen              Peppermint              Spearmint              Pomegranate Mint

I shared most of the samples with Los Tres Amigos...most.  I kept the PÜR Pomegranate Mint in my purse and only shared it with my youngest after he found it in my purse searching for a pen.  Pretty tasty and packs a strong flavor that lasts leaving your breath smelling fresh.  PÜR Gum packs a flavor punch.  Like here comes the FLAVOR!

I ordered a few packs of PÜR Gum to tuck in my kids' stockings along with a few pieces of fruit and old fashioned ribbon candy.

All That Glitters: Shane Co.

My grandma has always been a stylish diva who never went anywhere without a pair of earrings, a ring or two on each hand and her wedding ring.  One of my most fondest memories as a child was rummaging through my grandmother's jewelry armoire.  When my grandparents first married they had an account with Shane Co. and many of the pieces in her jewelry armoire came from Shane Co.

As a picked out through the pieces, I stood in amazement as my grandma would recount when the  piece was purchased and any special occasions associated with the piece.  Sapphires and diamonds, platinum and pearls, each piece had a story of its own.

Much like my grandma, my mom has always had a love of fine jewelry.  Although her initial jewels were merely her wedding rings, as I grew older, her  jewelry collection grew.  My mom has small, dainty hands and long fingernails much like a hand model. Although her bridal set was to be admired, it was her pearls that I adored most.

I remember a middle school dance and my mom letting me borrow her beloved "real" strand of pearls necklace and earring set.  As she closed the clasp of her treasured strand of precious pearls around my neck, I felt so pretty.

I think I was about 14 years old or so when she gifted me with my first set of pearl earrings.  My mom believed a young lady should own at least one pair of pearl earrings.  I still have one of the pearl earrings in my jewelry box.   I misplaced one of my beloved pearls years ago, but managed to hold on to one of them which I keep in my jewelry box.

Pearls have been my go to fashion item for decades. Eternal and timeless, pearls never go out of style! Shane Co. cultured pearls are matched by hand for exceptional luster.

My daughter, the "Little Old Lady", just as I, finds her grandma's jewelry box to be a treasure trove.  One day, I pray, she too will be a mom and my granddaughter will come to my home and find my jewelry box to be full of treasures.  I wonder what tales I'll share as she digs through my jewelry box.  I'm sure I'll tell her the story of my first strand of pearls when she finds that one, lone pearl earring.

Timeless.  A beautiful piece of jewelry transcends time and begets tradition and Shane Co. has been a part of my family for years and will be for years to come.

Random Acts of Kindness

Every now and then something happens to remind me that despite all the bad things going on in the world, there are still good people out there.

As many of you know early December has wreaked havoc across much of the Southern United States.  Dubbed Cleon and Dion by The Weather Channel, these two storms have brought many cities, including mine, to a standstill and Winter has yet to begin.

Earlier today, I came across a Facebook post that touched my heart so much and just reminded me of the kindness of others we often take for granted.  The post prompted me to log off my computer and give a giant bear hug to my Hubby who I scolded for going out last night as sleet began to cover the streets in our neighborhood.  To put it short, I was wrong.

We have a neighbor who is a pastor.  He's one of my husband's best friends.  They're kindred spirits of sorts despite their obvious differences.  One, burly and bearded.  The other, fit and clean-shaven.  Their birthdays are just days apart and each shares a love of nature.  One fishing.  The other, hunting.  One a Democrat and the other a Republican.  However, it's their love of God that unites them.  You can always count on them for a word of inspiration and if you ever need them, either of them, they're dependable and reliable.

One I call, friend.  The other, well I'm proud to call him, Hubby.  He's been the love of my life for over 20 years.  The best man I've ever known.  My best friend.  My soul mate.  So when he said he was going to the church to help out his friend, I freaked out.  The roads were icy and well, I've slid down our hilly road a few times and people were everywhere in an effort to prepare for the impending bad weather.  Yet, he was compelled.

Yes, he goes there every Thursday to help out with our neighbor's food pantry but this evening was different.  The weather was bad and I needed, no I wanted him here with us.  Yet, he was compelled to go help.

There weren't many visitors to the pantry last night.  The weather was too bad for those who needed it most to travel to the church.  However, the hours dragged on and my beloved husband seemed to be taking a little longer than usual.  When he came home, he shared with me a story of taking a young man home.  A young man who didn't have a car and usually comes to the pantry with his family to carry home the bounty of much needed food.  He gave the young man a ride home.

My husband also told me of all the food he dropped off to the homes of the elderly neighbors who visit the pantry each week but were unable to make it due to the weather.  I guess that qualifies as a reasonable excuse.  SMILE.

Yet it wasn't until this morning while on Facebook when I read a post that really made me appreciate my hubby's random act of kindness.

To really understand gravity of his random act of kindness didn't take more than glancing out my living room window to see power lines and shrubs weighted with ice, fallen limbs, streets and car windows covered with glistening ice.  How thoughtful of Doug to offer to assist those in his community.  A random act of kindness.

I don't know Doug IRL.  We became Facebook friends courtesy of a local TV station's early morning broadcast.  Yet, I was touched by his offer that I felt compelled to share it with you.  It's nice to see people extend themselves just because.  No reward expected.  Just because.

I pray there's someone in your community that seeks the opportunity to help remind others of the goodness of mankind.  If not...BE THAT PERSON and be ye kind one to another.

Let's Talk Soy Protein and Children and a Giveaway

With so many poor food choices available to our children this holiday season, it's nice to see some healthier options that they'll actually eat.

We've long been fans of MorningStar Farms products and have incorporated them into our "Meatless Mondays".  It's something I started a few years ago when hubby's cholesterol began to rise.  It was a simple change but one we've come to embrace.  MorningStar Farms offers a wide variety of TASTY Meatless Monday options sure to win over the pickiest eaters.  Products packed full of protein which is crucial for optimal nutritional health.
My kids really like MorningStar Farms Chik'n Nuggets and Hubby and I never pass up a wrap or sandwich made with MorningStar Farms Chik Patties and fresh green leaf lettuce.  Great taste and less fat than some of the other chicken nugget and patty offerings at our local grocer.  MorningStar Farms Sausage Links and Patties are the secret to my sausage and rigatoni recipe revamp.  I just switched out the heavy fat pork for healthier MorningStar Farms Sausage and my family is treated to a meal packed with protein.  I just may share this recipe in an upcoming post.

For those of you who may not be in the know about soy protein, allow me to enlighten you:
· Soy protein is a high‐quality, plant‐based protein derived from soybeans
· Soy protein supports healthy growth and development
· Because of its ability to impact satiety, soy protein can help in managing a healthy weight in children
· Soy protein is a healthy alternative for children with milk, egg or peanut allergies
· Incorporating high-quality proteins, such as soy protein, into children’s diets supports immune health

In addition to a coupon for a free MorningStar Farms product, I also received samples of Nogii Kids and A3 bars and a cute, little thermal tote.

I'm ALWAYS looking for healthy snacks for my kids so being able to sample A3 bars and Nogii kids bars was a welcome opportunity to try something totally new.  To assist with this review, I recruited the middle of Los Tres Amigos for this review as he is the foodie of the group.

The Nogii Kids bars com in a clear package so my kid could see ALL of the bar's goodness.  By "goodness" I mean chocolate chips.  My son said it looked like a "chocolate chip rice krispy treat".  He really liked it.

My Thoughts:  The NoGii Bar was very dense but quite tasty.  Tons of semi-sweet chocolate chips and just the right amount of amount of sweet for my liking.  Had to check out the packaging and was glad to see NoGii Bars contains absolutely no high fructose corn syrup.  None.  Zilch.  Nada.

Nogii Kids Bars are healthy, gluten-free, and packed with protein.

Next up was the A3 Honey Graham S'Mores bar. One bite left me trying to figure out why I've never had these before.  OMG!  This was absolutely delicious!  My generous child was a little reluctant to share once we opened the package. Seriously, the sweet smell of honey graham and chocolate just oozes from the package.

A3 Honey Graham S'Mores bars are packed full of goodness plus they are also:
  • Low in fat
  • High in protein
  • Gluten free
  • Zero cholesterol
  • Low in sodium
  • Full of ingredients I can pronounce
  • Did I mention DELICIOUS!!!
Snack healthier!  Check out healthier snack options like MorningStar Farms, Nogii Kids and A3 which are packed full of high-quality proteins, including soy protein.

These Girls Rock! 1 Girl Nation CD Review

Have you listened to the radio lately?  OMG!  It's crazy or "cray" as my niece reminds me.  I'm so glad to see a group sharing good music with a positive message.

About 1 Girl Nation:
Landing in the space where One Direction meets TobyMac, 1 Girl Nation is an exciting blend of upbeat pop music, with lyrics that are totally focused on living life for God, even while you’re young. 1GN, as they’ve already been dubbed, stars Carmen, Kayli, Kelsey, Lauryn Taylor and Lindsey, five girls with a passion for telling their fans about Christ through their music. Their first single, “While We’re Young,” can be heard on radio stations across the country and their self-titled debut album is available now!

Our Thoughts:

Music is a constant in the Three Boys and an Old Lady household and finding music the entire family can enjoy can be a challenge sometimes.  Fortunately there are groups like 1GN who record music that not only rocks but rocks with a message.  I decided to let my 11- and 13-year nieces help facilitate this review in exchange for the CD.

What are your favorite songs on the 1GN CD?
"Love Like Crazy" and "Count Your Rainbows"

What did you like most about these songs?
"I like 'Love Like Crazy' because it was nice.  It was a happy song."  "I liked the lyrics.  It's a pretty song.  They sound like Selena Gomez." "Yeah, kinda like Selena but different.  I know all the words."

What is one reason people should check out 1GN?
"Because they sing nice."  "Well, I think everyone should buy this because they are kids.  They could grow up and be really famous and maybe get a t.v. show and that would be nice."

Well there you have it.  Many thanks to my guest reviewers but I'd like to add a few things.

It didn't take long for the kids to warm up to 1GN.  I was surprised they wanted to bring it in from the car to the house.  I'm glad as I kinda' liked the songs myself.  It's nice to hear up tempo music of faith and better yet, nice to see a group of young ladies not confirmed to the wiles of the world.  Staying true to themselves and their beliefs.

I've popped the popcorn, children are in their pjs and we're spending a little family time watching this broadcast.  Be sure to join in the fun by tweeting with the hashtags #faithandfamily and #SoundofMusic.

Disclosure:  Many thanks to the sponsor for the opportunity to share this live experience with my kids and the Three Boys and an Old Lady blog family.
