Hallmark Get Carded Challenge and a #Giveaway

Disclosure:  I received a package of Hallmark cards in exchange for this post.  Views expressed below are mine.

I can think of nothing that cheers me up more than receiving a card in the mail.  No matter how challenging my day presents, one card can change it all.  So without hesitation as soon as I heard about the Hallmark Get Carded Challenge I knew I had to participate.

To begin my challenge I received a package of 7 cards from Hallmark with the challenge to send 7 cards in 7 days.  The cards were beautiful.  Well, they're Hallmark so I expected nothing less.  I received cards commemorating Birthdays, Going to Camp, Get Well Wishes, Thinking of You, cards for girls and cards for boys and even a card for my faraway love.

So many cards and only 7 days to master the challenge.  The first card I sent was to my best friend. She recently had surgery and there was a sparkly lil' pink card perfect for her.  Then I sent a card to one of my friends who has been having a tough time as of late.

Then a funny thing happened.  One of my friends and I were out and about and at the last minute she mentioned she needed to pick up a card for a birthday party her little one was attending.  I just happened to have my Hallmark Get Carded cards handy and gifted her with the perfect card for a little one.
I've got 2 more cards left.  One a birthday card from a child and I know the perfect person to gift them to but their birthday isn't for another month yet.  The other is the most romantic card ever for a faraway love.  I worry if I send it to Hubby, he'll give me the side eye  and wonder why I sent it so I've decided to save that card for one of my friends who husband is in the military.  I figured it'd make a nice gift when he begins his next tour.

Hallmark has a knack for putting onto cards the words of the heart.

Stories From the Bright Side: When They Just Don't Wanna Eat What Mommy Cooks

Disclosure:  This blog post is part of a paid SocialMoms and Happy Family blogging program. The opinions and ideas expressed here are my own.

Remember when your kid was going through the "Picky Eater" phase and everyone tried to reassure "It's just a phase, they'll grow out of it."  Well, my youngest has gone through phases like none other.

First it was milk.

The child would eat plain ol' cereal right out the bowl.

Then we went through the peanut butter phase.  Where all he wanted was peanut butter sandwiches.  Day and night.

I thought my poor lil' child would starve to death but my mom reassured me he'll be fine.

Then when the Little Old Lady was younger she had tummy troubles.  I changed how I prepare food to a healthy style.  I worried so because she wouldn't eat anything I cooked but her grandma's oil-laden, butter-basted, deep fried cooking didn't seem to bother her one single bit.  Here I was snapping green beans and blanching them to a slight change in color saving all the healthy goodness and here's my beloved daughter at the table pushing her plate away saying "I'm not hungry".

Oh, then there was the carrots.  OMG, I know my mom will cringe as I share the story of how the oldest of Los Tres Amigos refused to eat carrots.  I made my usual plea "If you don't finish your dinner, you cannot have any dessert."  He looked at me with his big old eyes and said "Mommy, I don't think I like carrots."  Well, again I told him that if he didn't finish his carrots he wouldn't get dessert.  My child sat at the dinner table for nearly 30 minutes after we'd finished eating and loading the dishwasher.  He was determined as only a 4 year old could be that he wasn't gonna eat those carrots.  So no dessert.  The next night, guess what veggie I served at dinnertime?  Yep, carrots.  Again, he refused to eat his carrots and again no dessert.  Finally on the third night, my mom said "Honey, he doesn't like carrots" and my child looked at her and said "Grandma, that's what I've been trying to tell her all week."  Kids.

So, what's your mealtime funny?  I'd love to hear about it.

Hubby's Fab Blueberry Pancakes and Our New Green Earth Pan #Spons

What do you do when your local grocery stores has blueberries on sale for 99 cents / a pint?  Well you make blueberry pancakes of course or at least that's what we in the Three Boys and an Old Lady household do.

I make pancake mix to store in our pantry for occasions such as this.  If you've never made pancake mix, it's easy and I'm sure you've got most of the ingredients you need already in your pantry.

Ingredients:
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar
Yep, that's it.  4  ingredients and just store in an airtight container in your pantry or on your kitchen counter top until you're ready to make pancakes.

Once you're ready to make pancakes you'll need to add 1 egg, 1 cup of milk, and blueberries (optional) to the dry mix.  This is enough batter for about 12 regular size pancakes or 6 of Hubby's Fab Blueberry Pancakes.

Directions:  Preheat your skillet.  Pour batter.  Watch for bubbles.  Flip.  Serve.

Oh, you noticed I didn't say anything about oil or non-stick spray.  Well, if you're using a non-stick skillet like the Ozeri Green Earth ceramic non-stick frying pan you don't need oil or non-stick spray.

Wish you could've seen Hubby flipping pancakes like the pros on the food channels.  Quite the show.  I received the 10" Ozeri Green Earth Ceramic Non-Stick Frying Pan for review and LOVE it!  The Ozeri frying pan is much lighter than some of my other non-stick frying pans and besides that it's PTFE and PFOA free.  I had to look it up also but check out the product description below for more info.
The pan is available in 8- and 12-inch sizes as well and the vibrant neon green color makes it easy to find in your pots and pan drawer.  We've had our 10" Ozeri Green Earth Ceramic Non-Stick Frying Pan for quite a few weeks now and have done everything from fry fish to poach eggs to saute veggies and are very pleased with how easy this pan is to use. Oh, I should probably mention we've burned a couple of things in our 10" Ozeri Green Earth Ceramic Non-Stick Frying Pan as well.  Yes, it's fallen victim to ooey gooey quesadillas and grilled cheese sandwiches and I can happily say the melted cheese was a breeze to remove.

Buy It:  10" Ozeri Green Earth Ceramic Non-Stick Frying Pan is currently available on Amazon for only $33.26 and includes free shipping.

My Kia, My Mom and the Love of Her Life

I am a Road Warrior! Although I don't mind planes or trains, traveling by car is hands down my favorite way to get away from it all. My kids are also road warriors. Now you'd think with three boys and a little old lady I'd drive some humunga chunga SUV but been there done that and hated it. I just love smaller vehicles and am quick to tell everyone don't let the small frame fool ya, my car has plenty of room.

My mom on the other hand is not much of a road warrior but she is a master when it comes to style.  You know the car ad that reads "One owner, low miles, garaged..." yep, that's my mom's car.

A couple of years ago she was in the market for a new vehicle and when she pulled into my driveway with her new Kia I was in awe.  I knew of Kia Sportage, Kia's stylish SUV but had never seen one of their sedans up close.  Two words:  OH WOW!!!

          Check out this dashboard.
          Photo via Kia.com
Voice command navigation, Bluetooth wireless, rear camera display, dual zone temperature controls, push button start, and EcoBoost technology to optimize fuel economy.  All of the features you'd expect in a vehicle priced at double the base price of my mom's Kia.

Her Kia Forte is my kind of car. Great gas mileage! Affordable, stylish and plenty of leg room.  Los Tres Amigos are quite tall and all three fit comfortably in the backseat or on those days when my mom is babysitting the Littlest One, the car seat tethers gives her confidence our family treasure is safe and secure.
Oh, the title of this post is "My Kia, My Mom and the Love of Her Life" to this pic.  Notice the front license plate.  Last year on Valentine's Day, my mom's hubby surprised her by leaving a dozen long stem roses in her car.  When she went to her car to leave for lunch, she immediately noticed the roses but didn't notice the front license plate.  Later that evening when she returned home, she thanked her hubby for the roses and he asked if she noticed anything different about her car.  They went outside.

          She opened the car door.
                Nothing.

          She walked around the car.
                Nothing.

Finally, he directed her to the Kia logo and you guessed it.
                Nothing.

Then she saw it and guess what...
          She cried tears of joy.

So if you're ever see a Kia with a pink and blue W 2 hearts E license plate, wave, don't honk you'll scare the living daylights out of my mom.
