“The El Beso de Luz” Margarita - Perfect Valentines Day Cocktail

Tequila.  This is the most versatile Valentine’s Day drink.  Tequila?  Yes, tequila.

Not only is tequila an aphrodisiac, but Santana (yes, the Santana of Woodstock and Black Magic Woman) likened his first warm taste of El Beso de Luz to the first time one falls in love. In fact, he was so moved by it that he gave the cocktail its name, a tribute to his wife Cindy.  Isn't that a sweet love story?

Feeling bitter? We think the citrus and vanilla notes, complimented by the knowledge that you’re about to indulge in one of Mexico’s finest exports will make that sour mood hard to maintain. Very smooth indeed.

Need a little something to relax, Valentine? Unlike other forms of alcohol, tequila – though not technically a stimulant – has been known to loosen one up a bit.

As a fan of Carlos Santana and a lover of good tequila, I'm pleased to share with you the recipe he created.  Enjoy.

“The El Beso de Luz” Margarita
(the kiss of light – Named by Santana)

½ oz Licor 43
1 oz lime juice
¼ orange squeeze drop

Smile Brilliant LED At Home Whitening Kit Review and Giveaway

Valentine's Day is fast approaching and your sweetie will probably want to take you to dinner so why not take this time to make your pearly whites a lil' pearl-ier with Smile Brilliant At Home Whitening Kit.  Smile Brilliant is much more affordable than similar products plus you have the convenience of doing it at home.

Priced at $39.95 the Smile Brilliant kit contains everything you need to jumpstart your way to a bright smile.

The Smile Brilliant  LED At Home Whitening Kit contains:

  • High intensity Ultra-Blue LED activating light (batteries included)
  • Protective trays(top and bottom)
  • 4ml Professional whitening gel pen (35% concentration)
  • 30 Day money back guarantee
  • Life-time tray replacement warranty

  • The whitening gel pen helps you accurately place the whitening agent on your teeth without making a mess.  The protective trays were a little flimsy, in my opinion, but comfortable.  Since I have braces I decided to have hubby try the Smile Brilliant At Home Whitening Kit.  Didn't take much to get him to try the kit since he does a lot of public speaking he is cognizant of how people stare at your mouth when you're giving a presentation.  Hubby also begins everyday with a cup or two of coffee which makes for a dull smile.  Hubby and I have used at home teeth whiteners which were similarly priced to the Smile Brilliant At Home Whitening Kit and we were eager see how it compared to other products we've used.

One of the first things I noticed about the Smile Brilliant At Home Whitening Kit was the flexible protective trays.  Before I had my braces, I tried a teeth whitening kit with a stiff, plastic protective tray which cut into my gums and was really, really uncomfortable. The Smile Brilliant At Home Whitening Kit trays were soft and comfortable.

Secondly, the whitening gel pen makes for precision application of the whitening agent.  No messy drip like some other at home whitening kits.  Just paint, slip the tray over your teeth and wrap your mouth around the activating light for about 15-20 minutes and you will notice a difference.  I certainly noticed a difference in hubby's pearly whites and guess what, he did too.

Buy It:   Smile Brilliant At Home Whitening Kit is available at http://www.smilebrilliant.com and is currently priced at $39.95 and if you can save 20% using the code SMILE20.

Win It:  One lucky Three Boys and an Old Lady blog reader will receive a Smile Brilliant At Home Whitening Kit (ARV $39.95)

Entertain Like a Gentleman Cookbook Review

16 years of marriage and hubby is still the best cook in the house.  Now did get it wrong, I know my way around the kitchen but there's definitely a difference in our entertaining styles.  Entertain Like a Gentleman is perfect for creating an experience that's sure to leave folks talking and wanting to know all your secrets.

"Knowing how to entertain for that special date or for a large crowd is the epitome of being a gentleman. There is no stronger way to impress someone than by showcasing your culinary skills. Bachelor Chef and culinary instructor David Harap has created a series of menus that any man can make his own. This book helps men create unforgettable meals for their guests without stress or needing years of cooking school. In addition to many exciting recipes for every occasion, that are tons of tips and secrets on how to become the ultimate host. Memorable meals made easy."

Each of the 16 chapters serve as the perfect party planner from idea to clean-up.  If I had to pick out a chapter or two that I liked best, it would definitely be Chapter 3 Superbowl / March Madness and Chapter 9 Cooking with the Kiddos.  The easy to make edamame dip was a hit during our Superbowl party.  Hubby and I have this restaurant we frequent on our date nights and I ordered the edamame appetizer.  He never had edamame in the pod and didn't notice me removing the beans from the pod before eating.  He swallowed a piece of the pod and started choking.  After helping him catch his breath and explaining the pod is not typically eaten, we had the biggest laugh.  So, when I told him I was making edamame dip, he jokingly reminded me to shell them.  I didn't have the heart to tell him I bought SHELLED edamame for my dip.  *smile*

Anyhoo, the dip turned out great PLUS it was super easy to make as are most of the recipes in Entertain Like a Gentleman.  Another fab feature of the book is the shopping lists which can be torn out and taken with you so you don't forget a single item.  Entertain Like a Gentleman includes some fab tips like asking guests if they have any dietary restrictions.  This used to be a common oversight until a lot of my guests started foregoing my desserts because they were watching their sugar intake so I started including sugar free desserts at our parties and our guests took notice.  Also, taking stock of pantry items you have on hand.  I'd hate to find out I was out of nutmeg just as I was whipping up a batch of pumpkin muffins found on page 166.

Overall a great reference book for the novice entertainer or the party pro and those in-between and given the author's background, David Harap knows what he's talking about and does a great job helping other navigate party planning from prep to clean-up.

Belly Fat Diet For Dummies is a complete and informative guide that makes shedding weight practical and fun—with results in days.

My Thoughts:  I've been reading the "For Dummies" series books years.  The books are written by persons with some knowledge of the topic and written in a conversational tone which makes it easy to understand.  The tips provided in this book have been great in helping me find exercises and recipes which have helped me develop a workout plan that's right for me.  I'd LOVE to lose a few pounds, c'mon who wouldn't, however, I'd rather be healthy.

During February, I'm more conscience of my heart health and just recently a friend of mine was diagnosed with diabetes and another has hypertension.  I don't want any of these ailments and I know there are ways I can prevent them.  Simply by making better health choices and exercising regularly.  Belly Fat Diet for Dummies offers some great tips!  Chapter 13 (Whipping Up Lunches That Fight Belly Fat) and Chapter 15 (Desserts and Snacks) are my favorite.  Why you ask?  Lunch is my biggest meal of the day and I've yet to quell my appetite for desserts and snacks.  When it comes to desserts and snacks I've got it bad...really, really bad.  There were a couple of ideas in Belly Fat Diet for Dummies that offered some alternatives for keeping me on the right track when it comes to making better decisions when it comes to desserts and snacks.

I hadn't given much thought to how many "For Dummies" books I have read until recently when my oldest son came home with an Algebra For Dummies book he'd checked out of the library.  I'm glad to report the book has helped him improve his Algebra grade and also glad to report I am walking more and have tried a couple of the belly-burning recipes in the Belly Fat for Dummies book that I've been reading.
