Father's Day Gift Guide: Palm Plates

We have a nice size backyard and love to hosts backyard barbecues during the Summer, well who am I kidding Hubby fires up the grill Summer, Winter, Fall AND Spring.  Each year, we host a family backyard barbecue for an elderly cousin of ours whose kids live out of state.  Hubby loads the smoker with our fave meats and the entire neighborhood is treated to a whiff of Southern barbecue goodness.  Once the meat comes off the grill and it's time to serve you won't find us reaching for paper plates.  I'm not a fan of paper plates.  Yep, you won't see any paper plates when you come to our home.  Foam?  Are you kidding?  No way.  I'd rather use my "real" dishes when entertaining and just load up the dishwasher afterwards.

However, after hearing Marx Food Palm Plates are biodegradable, I was eager to put them to the test.  We're fairly new to composting but I figured our compost worms would be up to the challenge.  Plus, I wouldn't have to load dishes into the dishwasher so the family could spend a little bit more Family Time together enjoying our Father's Day.  I received a 4-pack of Palm Plates and saucers to review.

Palm plates are made from the leaves of the Adaka palm tree.  When the leaves fall to the ground, they're picked, cleaned, flattened and molded to shape of a plate.  It's pretty neat when you think about it.  No stripping trees of their precious leaves and because each leaf is different, each finished product is different as well.

Check out my pics of the Palm Plates we received.
Notice the distinct coloring of each plate.  Neat huh?

Palm Plates can be wiped and re-used and can tolerate both hot and cold temps but beware if it's too hot the plates will warp and lose it's shape a tad.  Not much, but still noticeable nonetheless.  However, they're still sturdier and better looking than paper plates and a better eco-friendly choice than foam ones.  Palm Plates are a little pricey but for a limited time ground shipping is included with each Palm Plate purchase and besides Palm Plates are sure to be a topic of discussion wherever used.

Father's Day Gift Guide: Pamper Your Dad with @Apothica

When it comes to pampering Moms have it made.  Poor dads rarely get in on the luxury of a Spa Day but not in the Three Boys and an Old Lady household.  Father's Day is the ONE day of the year I pamper Hubby with a pedicure.  The ONE day.  The rest of the year, well, it ain't gonna happen.  I'm not a fan of touching other people's feet and as much as I love my husband, and yes, I love my husband, his feet are included in this but Father's Day is the ONLY exception.

I have a ton of "girly" scented products I use for my home pedicures but I know just where to find less "girly" scented products perfect for the Annual Father's Day Spa Day...Apothica.  Apothica carries ALL things beauty.  Whether it's colognes, nail polish, lip balm (or gloss), hair products, chances are Apothica carries it.

I'm a huge fan of Badger balm products and always have Badger Foot Balm.  Badger Foot Balm contains ingredients I can pronounce like Jojoba oil, Castor oil, Tea Tree oil, and EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) and peppermint oil for an added healing bonus.  I am notorious for powdering my shoes in the morning so when I take off my tennis shoes, my feet look dry.  A quick dab of Badger Foot Balm on my heels gets rid of that dry, cracked heel look and leaves my feet feeling soft and looking great.  Check out these Before, During and After pics

     Before                                           During                                           After

Noticeable difference huh?  Badger Foot Balm is a must for sore, tired feet and dry, cracked heels and the Annual Father's Day Spa Day!  Badger Foot Balm is so convenient.  It comes in a compact 2 fl. oz. tin so it fits in your pedicure kit, pocket, or anywhere so you can always have it ready to use whenever your feet feel tired.  So do Dad a favor this Father's Day and ditch the tie.  Treat him to a Spa Day and be sure to visit Apothica to stock up on necessary products to make this Father's Day a day to remember.

Father's Day Gift Guide: Irish Spring Clear and Fresh Skin Body Wash

Gentle enough for his skin but tough enough to protect against acne breakouts.  Oh, and it leaves him smelling good.  Irish Spring Clear and Fresh Body Wash is the first mass male body wash offering anti-acne benefits.  How cool is that?  Male body washes are notorious for loud scents that linger long after the shower so I was a bit leery of having Los Tres Amigos and Hubby try it out.

The Verdict:  WE love it!  Irish Spring Clear and Fresh Body Wash had a very clear and fresh - no pun intended - fragrance.  Since the fellas liked it so much I decided to include Irish Spring Clear and Fresh Body Wash in the 2012 Father's Day Gift Guide

More Info:  Introducing Irish Spring Clear & Fresh Skin Body Wash, the first mass male body wash to treat and help prevent breakouts with 2% Salicylic Acid, the leading acne-fighting ingredient. Armed with the ability to fend off blemishes and wash away dirt and oil, Irish Spring Clear & Fresh Skin Body Wash is the ultimate confidence booster. And because the formula is infused with the classic 8 hour scent system, your skin will be left feeling fresh, clean and clear all day long. For more information, visit IrishSpring.com.

Buy It:   Irish Spring Clear and Fresh Body Wash is available at many local retailers including Walgreens, Walmart and even Amazon!

Father's Day Gift Guide: Aerobie AeroSpin Yo-Yo Review and Giveaway

When you think of nostalgic toys, the yo-yo ranks pretty high on the list, but the Aerobie AeroSpin Yo-Yo ain't your grandpa's yo-yo.  It's a yo-yo sure to make even the most novice yo-yo-er look like a pro, even my Hubby.  Which is exactly why I am adding the Aerobie AeroSpin Yo-Yo to the Father's Day Gift Guide.  Between Hubby and the kids I don't know who plays with it more.

I wanted to test it out before giving it to the kids and I perfected a couple of tricks found in the accompanying Book of Tricks so I could wow 'em with my yo-yo skills.  They were impressed and then I gifted the middle of Los Tres Amigos with the Aerobie AeroSpin Yo-Yo and within minutes he had mastered three tricks.  Our favorite trick was the Three Leaf Clover and he learned it within a matter of minutes.  Amazing!  Absolutely amazing!  I kept showing him tricks from the Book of Tricks so I could see how fast he could learn them and then before I knew it Hubby joined in the fun and we spent an entire evening doing yo-yo tricks.  It was really fun.

The high tech design of the Aerobie AeroSpin can make anyone a yo-yo master in no time.     Unique placement of the ball bearings allows for longer "sleeper" time which is key to mastering the yo-yo.  Technical stuff I know but amazing nonetheless when you hold the Aerobie AeroSpin and another brand yo-yo in your hands you will notice the difference.  The Aerobie AeroSpin has a gel-like grip coating which makes it softer than other yo-yos. "Each AeroSpin comes with a booklet of tricks and tips. It is recommended for ages 5 and up, retails for $19.99, and is sold online through Amazon.com and other retailers."

Buy It:   The Aerobie AeroSpin retails for To purchase your Aerobie AeroSpin or to locate a store near you visit http://aerobie.com/wheretobuy.htm or click the Amazon logo below.

Skincare Made Simple thanks to @SimpleSkinCare @Walgreens

There are many surefire tips to healthy looking skin.  For example, drinking at 6-8 glasses of water to keep your skin hydrated, eating healthy and using skin care products enriched with vitamins.   Simple products contain Pro-Vitamin B5 and Vitamin E and have been a UK fave for several years and now they’re here in the states.  I’ve seen them on the shelves of my local Walgreens and was so glad to be selected by SheSpeaks to receive a sample of the Simple Smoothing Facial Scrub.

Simple Smoothing Facial Scrub was gentle and didn’t leave my face feeling like I scraped it on a cheese grater like some other harsh facial scrubs I’ve tried.  I don’t need anything that harsh.  I just like an occasional scrubbing but some of the scrubs I’ve used in the past are so harsh they end up in the back of my bathroom vanity only to be found months later.  Such wasn’t the case with Simple Smoothing Facial Scrub.  I loved the texture and how soft my skin felt after using the Simple Smoothing Facial Scrub.

The texture was different and contained rice granules.  Rice granules, now that’s something you don’t see every day.  Simple Smoothing Facial Scrub doesn’t have any harsh irritants, artificial perfumes or dyes and that’s a huge plus in my book.

Buy It:  Simple Skincare Products can be found at Walgreens stores nationwide and even at some local grocery stores including Kroger.

Disclosure:  Many thanks to SheSpeaks for the opportunity to participate in the Walgreens Simple Skincare Program.  As a program participant, I received a complimentary product sample from SheSpeaks and Simple.  Click here to view the Disclosure Policy of this Three Boys and an Old Lady blog.
