LEGOLAND Discovery Center and a LEGOLAND Deal.

Temps have been over 100 for several days now and it's been so hot I've had to find more indoor activities for the kiddos.  Fortunately, LEGOLAND Discovery Center is a cool place to hang out with the kids.  My kids LOVE Legos and last year we visited LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Dallas / Fort Worth shortly after their grand opening.  Hard to believe Legoland Discovery Center recently celebrated their FIRST ANNIVERSARY in March.  

 

LEGOLAND is a great place to take the kiddos for some cool, indoor Summer fun.  The visit begins with an interactive lesson from the Professor on how Lego bricks are made.  The LEGOLAND staff does a wonderful job drumming up audience participation.  Once the doors opened you are greeted with flood of Legos.  EVERY Lego imaginable and then some.  On the day of our visit there were two busloads of 5th and 6th graders and 3 buses of preschoolers from a Dallas-area daycare.  Yet, somehow there was no waiting for rides or exhibits.  

Our first stop was the Kingdom Quest ridge.  A "chariot" ride through dark caves complete with laser guns to zap animated enemies and flying creatures as your ride through.  The ride keeps score of your hits so you can have bragging rights once the ride ends.  Oh, I'm not mentioning that solely because my score was higher than hubby's.  Really, I'm not.

After the Kingdom Quest we split up.  Hubby went after two children and I after the other.  There was so much to see and do, no one knew where to begin. I asked each child to share their favorite attraction.

Lego Racers:  Build and Test is a great place to build a racing car and zoom it down the test track.  It didn't take long for the kids to realize a few adjustments to their vehicle design could make or break a race.  

Earthquake Tables:  Build a tower and then see if your tower can stand up to the mighty earthquake.  The kids laughed aloud as their towering tower of Legos fell to the ground once the earthquake started.  This proved to be a very addictive activity for the older children as they tried to use various combinations of Lego bricks to avoid being the first tower to tumble.

Amidst all the children I was able to find a quiet place --> MINILAND.  A miniature Dallas using over 1.5 million LEGO bricks.  Everything from the Dallas skyline to the legendary Dallas Cowboys Stadium to the iconic Southfork - yes, Southfork Ranch, home of J.R. and Bobby Ewing.  Within moments the lights fell and the Dallas skyline came to life.  Fireworks lit the room and the Dallas skyline lit the room.  Absolutely amazing!  I guess the "oohs" and "aahs" of surprise caught the attention of my brood and it wasn't long before the silence was broken and filled with the "oohs" and "aahs" of surprise from kids of all ages. 

Duplo Village:  There was such an abundance of imagination in this room as little ones found solace in their creations.  This room has giant Lego bricks so the kids were able to build a Lego fort complete with windows.  I later learned these larger bricks are only available at LEGOLAND Discovery Centers.  How neat is that?

Lego 4D Cinema:  Where there's a line, there's usually something very interesting and the oldest of Los Tres Amigos and his dad waited patiently in line for a seat in the 4D Cinema.   It's rare Hubby leaves a movie and immediately wants to see it again, but he insisted I round up all the children so we could venture into the fourth dimension.  However, everyone was so wrapped up in their activity no one wanted to stop building and nearly cried when I told them we were going to watch a Lego movie.  So, my oldest and I went to see it and OMG!  AWESOME!  It rained, it snowed and you could feel the wind blow right at your seat!  Must see!  

Looking for a place where the kids can get a little more active while you rest for a moment, well the Lego City Play Zone and Fire Academy is the place for you.  Think jungle gym, only bigger.  The kids can climb and run and slide to their little heart's content in this confined area.  There's a nearby bench for tired parents to rest amidst the children.

There are so many fun things to do at LEGOLAND Discovery Center and while you're there be sure to visit Sea Life.

"Never mind me I'm just watching the SHARKS swim by"  notice how calm the Little Old Lady is.  

or "Can we have one?" 

She didn't flinch not one bit as the sharks swam up to the glass.

  

The aquarium was full of all types of sea creatures including stingrays, mollusks, sea snails, fish, sharks and even an octopus.
