The Office Depot Foundation has worked exceptionally hard to change this troubling reality. By donating great-looking new sackpacks containing essential school supplies to deserving children, we are giving them invaluable tools they can use to succeed in the classroom.
This year, the Foundation will donate 400,000 sackpacks to non-profit organizations and schools in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and internationally – the most ever in a single year. By the end of 2012, Office Depot and the Office Depot Foundation will have helped more than 2.9 million children since the inception of the National Backpack Program in 2001.
To place the sackpacks in children's hands, we're hosting 25+ “Back-to-School Celebrations” in cities across the U.S. and in Puerto Rico. Five events will include Tony Stewart, driver of the No. 14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 Chevrolet in the NASCAR® Sprint Cup Series™, while three more will feature appearances by multifaceted entertainer Nick Cannon. Thousands of sackpacks also are being donated through Office Depot stores in hundreds of local communities and in collaboration with Office Depot’s Business Solutions Division in select cities.
The sackpacks we donate are designed with kids in mind – they come in seven different color combinations with kid-friendly graphics. You will not find the Office Depot Foundation's logo anywhere on the sackpacks – except for a removable paper tag. We want to be sure that children are proud to carry the sackpacks they receive, with no risk of being stigmatized by something that clearly identifies it as an act of charity.
